Juliana Rhee, 16, is a student at Glenbrook North High School in Illinois. She has been studying cello since she was 8 years old. She first started the cello with Nina Wallenberg at the Music Institute of Chicago. Juliana immediately began private lessons with Hans Jorgen Jensen, Professor of Cello at Northwestern University, and currently studies with him as well.

Juliana has collected top prizes in several competitions. She received first place in both Junior and Intermediate Divisions of the Society of American Musicians Competition in 1999 and 2001, respectively. She was the winner of the 2001-2002 Glenbrook Symphony Orchestra Competition. In 2001, Juliana also claimed the title of Overall First Prize winner of the Midwest Young Artists Concerto Competition.

Juliana was the featured soloist of the opening 2002-2003 concert of the award-winning Knox-Galesburg Symphony Orchestra. She was also invited to host “The Cello” Music Mornings Program in Galesburg, Illinois. Due to her performance with the Knox-Galesburg Symphony Orchestra, she appeared on WCBU 89.9, a partner of National Public
Radio and Public Radio International. Juliana has also performed as a soloist with the Midwest Young Artists Orchestra and the Glenbrook Symphony Orchestra.

Juliana is currently an active member and co-principal of both the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Encore Chamber Orchestra.
