Anthony W. (Tony) Arredia was elected by the voters of Des Plaines to his second full term as Mayor on April 5, 2005. He was originally selected by the City Council in January 2000 to fill the remaining term of the late Mayor Paul Jung. In April 2001 he was elected to the office of Mayor. He was also elected to two terms as 8th Ward Alderman before serving as Mayor.

Tony has lived in Des Plaines most of his adult life. He has been married to his wife, Jean for more than 40 years. They raised 3 sons and now are the proud grandparents of 4 granddaughters, all of them musically inclined.

Tony was born and raised on the west side of Chicago and attended Mount Carmel High School. The bulk of his professional life was spent in banking. From 1955 through 1990, he worked at Continental Bank and retired as Vice President of bank operations, image technology, management development, and product line pricing strategy. After retirement, he served as Director of the Asbury Court Retirement Community.

Other than elected office, his community activities have centered on coaching football and baseball. He was a member of the staff at St. Viator High School, was president of the Mt. Prospect Football Association, served as chairman of various Mt. Prospect Park District committees, and is a certified ACP/ISHA instructor.

Tony’s personal experience with music goes back to his youth when his mother forced him to take 5 years of accordion lessons. He has not touched the accordion for 53 years. However, he has grown to have a strong appreciation of music and has attended almost all of the Northwest Symphony concerts since becoming Mayor. Even though the Northwest Symphony repertoire does not contain “Sh-Boom”, he is most honored to have the opportunity to conduct this afternoon.
