Abraham Feder is currently a student at The Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where he studies with David Soyer and Peter Wiley. He began his cello studies in Chicago when he was three years old. At age eleven, he made his solo debut at the United Center playing the National Anthem for solo cello at a Chicago Bulls game. At age twelve he made his solo orchestral debut with the Chicago Youth Concert Orchestra.

Abraham received the Merit Award in cello from the National Foundation for the Advancement in Arts. He has been a featured soloist and chamber musician on “From the Top,” the NPR Classical Music Program and has been presented in recital with “Music in the Loft.” In 2003, he joined cellists of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in a live performance of all six Bach Suites for Unaccompanied Cello with “Music at 399.” He has performed in master classes with The Ahn Trio, Yehuda Hanani, Eleanore Schoenfeld, Wolfgang Laufer, and Janos Starker.

In December 2003, Abraham was chosen to serve as principal cellist of the New York String Orchestra Seminar under Jamie Laredo at Carnegie Hall. He served as co-principal cellist of The Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras for four years and principal cello of the Encore Chamber Orchestra for five years. He received the Music Director’s Award and the coveted Jean and Dorothy Mollendorf Award from the Youth Symphony.

As a chamber musician, Abraham performed with the Praxis Piano Quartet live on WFMT’s “Impromptu.” Praxis was also featured at the Whim Festival in St. Croix, US Virgin Islands.

This past summer Abraham was a member of the 7th Annual Laureates Festival in Taos, New Mexico, and in Los Angeles. The young artists performed at the new Walt Disney Concert Hall.

In Chicago, Abraham studied with Richard Hirschl of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He is a graduate of the University of Chicago Laboratory School.
